How Does the Program Work?

Companions, like mentors, are matched individually or in a team to a person living with HIV and facing difficult challenges in their life.  The companion, mentor approach is proven as an effective way to offer support to those who are in need of social interaction; help accessing services or advocacy for an improved quality of life.

There are times when Case Managers and other services can not meet an immediate emergency or assist in a financial crisis. Volunteer Friendship continues to call upon internal sources to help our clients meet those situations with a minimum of stress or anxiety.

Who will Mentor and How often?

Friendly, caring and dedicated volunteers of Catholic Charities trained on issues that directly impact people living with the virus that causes AIDS.  All of the volunteers have signed confidentiality agreements and have undergone extensive background screening.

Arrangements will always be made to best meet each person's individual needs.  Program participation for a minimum of one year is highly recommended.
