"At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by 'I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat.   I was naked and you clothed me.   I was homeless, and you took me in.'  Hungry not only for bread - but hungry for love.   Naked not only for clothing - but naked of human dignity and respect.   Homeless not only for want of a home of bricks - but homeless because of rejection."

"Do not wait for leaders.  Do it alone, person to person."

                                                                  - Mother Theresa

What does a Care Team do?

The primary purpose of a care team is to be a circle of friends to a person living with HIV or AIDS.  The care team provides practical, emotional and spiritual support through face to face visitation, telephone calls and through social gatherings.

What kind of training do care team members receive?

Each team member of the ministry commits to on-going training provided by Catholic Charities.  Your training will be comprehensive and cover the facts about HIV disease, the emotional aspects of living with HIV/AIDS, and the importance of understanding any of your own stereotypes or prejudices.

Your training will also include effective mentoring practices, confidentiality, sensitivity, and how the team functions in terms of communication with one another and on behalf of the person living with the disease.

What about Confidentiality?

Gaining and maintaining trust is of paramount importance.  You will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement where in you agree to protect the privacy of those whom you serve.

Is the Care Team Ministry right for me?

Not all people are 'right' for all ministries.  Helping those who suffer from HIV is a very special calling.  It requires an unconditional love in service to those feeling lost in a world of uncertainties.  Only you can answer this question.
